Richard Jaspers is a human movement scientist employed at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences. As Head of the Laboratory for Myology he has ample expertise in both basic and applied research on musculoskeletal tissue function and adaptation. His research encompasses multiple biological scales, from cell to organ to whole body, and translates mechanistic insights into strategies to improve movement performance in rehabilitation and sports. Throughout his career, Richard has demonstrated the ability to collaborate successfully in multidisciplinary teams.

As member of the AMS management team and program director of the AMS program “Tissue Function & Regeneration” over the past five years, Richard has a solid understanding of the ambition and organization of AMS. Richard: “For many years I have experienced the potential of interdisciplinary collaborations and sharing of expertise and infrastructure within the AMS institute. A challenge for AMS is to prioritize societally relevant issues in the clinic and sports and to strengthen networks of clinicians, physiotherapists, coaches, basic scientists and private partners around these issues. In my new position within AMS, I look forward to realizing the ambitions and achieving further success in the years to come.” Richard Jaspers and Mario Maas will jointly lead the AMS institute. Together, they will further develop and innovate the research policy, strategy and programs of AMS with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration.
