Professional interests

I am an Associate Professor at the Section Developmental Psychology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands. My research and teaching are focused on the development, assessment and treatment of social functioning of individuals with and without psychopathology. In particular, I am involved in a wide variety of projects that highlight the assessment of social emotional problems in autism and the effects of treatment for some of these problems. I have developed new methods and new approaches to assess the limitations in social functioning of individuals with autism, and used these to assess treatment effects. In 2012, I founded the Netherlands Autism Register (NAR),, a large longitudinal cohort of individuals with autism (n=1600) which will be surveyed yearly, and used to recruit specific cohorts.
